Eugene Fahngon, the Director General of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), is facing legal troubles as he has been summoned to court by Fatumata Mansaray, the mother of his son, Eugene Fahngon Jr. The case, centered on allegations of child support negligence, has been brought before Paynesville City Stipendiary Magistrate Cllr. William G. Saygay.

The magistrate has ordered Fahngon to appear in court to address complaints regarding his alleged failure to provide adequate child support and his purported lack of responsibility as a father. This legal action comes at a time when Fahngon has been in the public eye due to his controversial leadership at LBS.

Fahngon, who assumed the role of LBS Director General in early 2024, has been a polarizing figure in Liberian media and politics. His appointment was seen as a reward for his support of President Joseph Boakai during the 2023 presidential elections, following his defection from the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC)[1].

Since taking office, Fahngon has faced criticism for his management style at LBS, with some describing it as "junta-style" leadership. He has been accused of exploiting the broad powers granted to him by the revised Human Resource Manual of 2017, which gives him extensive control over the institution's financial, operational, and intellectual assets[5].

The child support case adds a personal dimension to the public scrutiny Fahngon has been under. It raises questions about his character and responsibility, potentially impacting his credibility as a public figure and leader of a state institution.

This legal challenge comes at a time when Fahngon is already embroiled in a public dispute with his predecessor, Estella Liberty Kemoh, whom he has accused of mismanagement and fund misappropriation. Kemoh has denied these allegations and filed a formal complaint with the information minister [5].

The court case may also draw attention to broader issues of accountability among public officials in Liberia. It could potentially influence public perception of Fahngon's ability to manage LBS effectively and responsibly, given the allegations of neglecting his personal responsibilities.

As this legal process unfolds, it remains to be seen how it will affect Fahngon's position at LBS and his relationship with the Boakai administration. The case could potentially add to the ongoing debates about governance, transparency, and leadership at the state broadcaster.
